DIY Window Seat

The girls' room has a cute little corner where their window dormer is, and I thought a window seat would be the perfect thing for the small space. When I work on DIY projects, I generally don't want to spend a lot of time on it (in other words, I want it done NOW) and I like to do it myself, which means it has to be fairly easy. Easy is good.

Here is what the corner looked like just before we moved in...

I tried to think of what I could use to create the seat without needing to use any power tools. So I scoured Goodwill and found this old school tv cabinet that happened to be the perfect size to fit into the space.

I went to Joann Fabrics and had a piece of 3" foam cut to the size of seat. I also got fabric there that I used to cover the foam, as well as make a few pillows. I sewed a simple curtain that I hung on a tension rod to cover the front of the cabinet. I thought about leaving the front of the cabinet exposed, but it didn't look quite right.

I need to sew a proper cover for the seat, but for now I just wrapped fabric around it.

It really was such a simple project, but the girls' love it and use it all the time. It's their favorite reading spot, and Violet even takes naps there. Yay for easy (and cheap) projects!
